How accurate is the AI calorie estimate?
It's an estimate, not a measurement. Both ingredients and serving size can be wrong. Hidden oil, fillings and mixed dishes are especially hard to judge from a photo. Read the component names and check the serving weights before you save.
Even when a match is grounded against the Swedish Food Agency, there is uncertainty about the actual food and amount. The app shows no guaranteed margin of error.
Do I have to weigh the food?
No, a photo can give a serving suggestion. You can change the serving weight in grams for each shown component. If you have a weighed amount you can use it to improve the basis; the values scale when you change the serving.
You can't add or remove components in the review step. If the breakdown is wrong, you can choose not to save.
Does it work on Swedish home cooking?
You can photograph Swedish home cooking too. Smakblick can suggest a whole dish or several visible components, for example meatballs and mashed potato. Smaklig tries to match the components against the Swedish Food Agency's data and keeps the AI estimate where a match isn't approved.
Sauces, stews and hidden ingredients can give an incomplete breakdown. Check the suggestion even when the dish's name looks reasonable.
What happens to my images?
The image is sent to Google Gemini for analysis. Smaklig currently stores no server-based image copy. After logging, the app may keep a local copy for the food log's image history, up to 120 meal photos per account on the phone.
Saving to the phone's gallery is a separate choice. The image is preprocessed on the phone and the app does not request EXIF data; the image content itself is still sent for analysis.
What consents are needed for photo and food log?
Image analysis and saving have separate consents. Active health consent is required to analyse the meal photo. To save the entry, a separate food-logging consent is also required. So the analysis doesn't automatically log the meal for you.
You choose breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack. The entry is saved on today's date according to the phone's local time; this flow has no date picker.
