Quick answer: A high-protein dinner for weight loss can still be an ordinary, enjoyable dinner: use one clear protein source, plenty of vegetables and a planned amount of potatoes, whole grains or legumes.
- 7 recipes: approximately 30–40 g protein per serving
- Time: 25–35 minutes
- Estimated cost: 20–50 SEK per serving
- No guarantee: protein may support satiety and lean mass, but one meal cannot determine weight loss
- Meal-kit flow: weekly menu to ICA cart, followed by home delivery
A high-protein dinner for weight loss is most useful when it belongs to a week you actually want to eat. Smaklig therefore does more than show another detached recipe list. It creates a weekly menu, generates the shopping list, matches it against ICA's range, selects the cheapest suitable products and places them directly into the ICA cart. You review the purchase and complete the home-delivery order yourself. The end-to-end sequence works, while range, prices and delivery availability depend on your selected store and slot. Explore the Smaklig meal-kit flow or visit the Smaklig homepage.
Higher-protein eating patterns may support perceived fullness and lean-mass retention in some energy-restriction settings. Reviews by Leidy and Westerterp-Plantenga discuss those mechanisms and outcomes. Leidy's review also calls the satiety effect modest and describes longer-term findings as mixed. Dinner is therefore a tool for structure and nutritional quality, not a promise about a future weight.
How is a high-protein weight-loss dinner different?#
Quick answer: The main difference is deliberate composition. The recipe starts with a protein source, includes vegetables and uses a base that completes the meal without banning an entire food group. This guide's 30–40 g values are approximate recipe totals. NNR 2023 defines a daily adult reference of 0.83 g/kg and does not set a dinner-specific rule.
For a 70 kg adult, the NNR reference works out to about 58 g over the whole day. A dinner containing 35 g may therefore be relatively large or small depending on everything else. NNR says protein's share of energy may need to rise during lower energy intake so the reference is still reached, but also notes that protein's health associations are difficult to separate from the rest of protein-rich foods and diets.
Ask four practical questions when composing dinner:
- Which protein do you enjoy? Fish, poultry, meat, eggs, dairy, tofu and legumes behave differently in recipes.
- Which vegetables make the dish appealing? Roasted, raw and sauce-based vegetables create different textures.
- Which base fits? Potatoes, rice, pasta, quinoa and legumes can all belong; the amount is part of the overall plan.
- Can leftovers become lunch? One planned extra serving reduces tomorrow's decisions and makes the grocery order more useful.
If the morning also needs structure, use the guide to a high-protein breakfast for weight loss. Breakfast and dinner do not need to compete for importance; the full week needs to be workable.
7 high-protein dinners with transparent ranges#
Protein estimates use common serving weights from the Swedish Food Composition Database, version 2026-07-01. A different variety or brand can change the actual value. Costs are rounded to 5 SEK ranges for the main ingredients. Treat them as planning aids, not store quotations.
1. Chicken traybake with white beans (30 min, about 40 g protein, 25–35 SEK)#
Roast 120 g chicken per person with peppers, red onion, courgette and spices. Fold in 100 g drained white beans near the end and serve with lemon yoghurt. The beans add protein and substance, reducing the need for a separate large starch portion.
2. Cod in tomato with lentils (30 min, about 36 g protein, 30–45 SEK)#
Simmer onion, chopped tomatoes, garlic and herbs. Add 150 g cod and 100 g cooked lentils per serving, then gently cook the fish in the sauce. Serve with green vegetables. Fish drives the cost range, so inspect the actual product before ordering.
3. Beef and bean chilli (35 min, about 34 g protein, 25–35 SEK)#
Brown 125 g lean minced beef per person with onion and spices. Add 100 g beans, tomato and peppers and simmer. Serve with cabbage salad and a smaller rice portion if desired. Make 4 servings and freeze any that will not be eaten soon.
4. Salmon with quinoa, peas and lemon (30 min, about 35 g protein, 40–50 SEK)#
Bake 125 g salmon and serve it with 100 g cooked quinoa, 100 g peas and a lemon-dressed salad. Quinoa and peas contribute protein, but salmon provides most of it. Schedule this dinner when the week's product and price fit your plan.
5. Tofu, edamame and peanut sauce (25 min, about 36 g protein, 25–35 SEK)#
Fry 150 g firm tofu with 100 g edamame, broccoli and peppers. Whisk a modest amount of peanut butter, lime, soy and water into a sauce and add rice according to your needs. Check allergies carefully: soy and peanuts are common allergens and cannot be assumed safe for everyone.
6. Cottage-cheese and broccoli frittata (25 min, about 38 g protein, 20–30 SEK)#
Whisk 3 eggs with 150 g cottage cheese, fold in broccoli and herbs, then bake in an oven-safe pan. Add tomato salad and potatoes if they suit the rest of the day. Divide the frittata after cooking for easier portions when feeding several people.
7. Lentil and halloumi stew (30 min, about 30 g protein, 20–30 SEK)#
Make a tomato-based stew with 75 g dry lentils per person, spinach and spices. Top with 50 g fried halloumi. The lentils provide most of the dish's volume; halloumi brings salinity and extra protein. Adjust cheese and seasoning to your own needs.
| Dinner | Time | Approx. protein | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken traybake with white beans | 30 min | 40 g | 25–35 SEK |
| Cod in tomato with lentils | 30 min | 36 g | 30–45 SEK |
| Beef and bean chilli | 35 min | 34 g | 25–35 SEK |
| Salmon with quinoa and peas | 30 min | 35 g | 40–50 SEK |
| Tofu, edamame and peanut sauce | 25 min | 36 g | 25–35 SEK |
| Cottage-cheese frittata | 25 min | 38 g | 20–30 SEK |
| Lentil and halloumi stew | 30 min | 30 g | 20–30 SEK |
Example: 5 dinners that reuse ingredients without tasting identical#
Quick answer: Select 5 dinners, reuse 2–3 ingredients and give each dish a separate flavour profile. The example shares beans, yoghurt, tomatoes, peppers and lemon. That can reduce half-used packs, but it is not a guaranteed food-waste result and does not require eating identical boxes throughout the week.
| Day | Dinner | Ingredient crossover |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Chicken traybake | peppers, beans, lemon yoghurt |
| Tuesday | Cod in tomato | tomato base, lentils, greens |
| Wednesday | Tofu and edamame | peppers, broccoli, lime and soy |
| Thursday | Beef and bean chilli | beans, tomatoes, cabbage salad |
| Friday | Cottage-cheese frittata | broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes |
This table is an example, not a diet rule. Replace dishes according to preference, allergies, household needs and the selected store. The objective is to create a coherent shopping list before products enter the cart.
From weekly menu to home delivery: the Smaklig meal-kit chain#
Quick answer: The order is fixed: weekly menu → shopping list → matching against ICA's range → cheapest suitable products → directly into the ICA cart → home delivery. The whole flow works. You stay in control of the cart and complete the order, while live range, prices and delivery options determine what is available.
Smaklig starts by building the weekly menu from your choices. It then combines the ingredients into one shopping list, so an onion used by 3 recipes does not become 3 unrelated shopping decisions. Each row is matched against the selected ICA store's range, and the cheapest suitable products are added directly to the ICA cart.
You then review quantities, substitutions, allergen information and the delivery options actually shown. Complete the order only when satisfied. That is why the meal kit is Smaklig's central value: planning does not stop at another checklist but can continue into a real ICA cart and home-delivery order.
How to get into the Smaklig beta#
Quick answer: Smaklig's native iOS and Android app is in beta. On iPhone you can join straight away via TestFlight, with no sign-up. On Android you apply through the form, which adds your email address to the closed testing.
- iPhone — straight away: open TestFlight and install the app. No sign-up needed, and you stay anonymous. If you'd rather we know who you are and can reach out, apply through the form instead.
- Android: apply through the beta form with the email that needs access, then open the Google Play testing programme once the account has been added.
The separate Android phone URL is omitted because it returned HTTP 404 in the link check. The Android web page remains the published route until the phone URL can be verified.
Dinner-planning pitfalls to avoid#
- Do not make protein the only measure of quality. A useful dinner also needs variety, vegetables, flavour and a balanced overall pattern.
- Do not promise a result from 7 recipes. Research describes potential supporting effects, not guaranteed weight loss.
- Do not confuse a cost range with today's shelf price. Review the actual cart before buying.
- Do not plan away allergen checks. Soy, peanuts, fish, milk and eggs are particularly relevant in these recipes.
- Do not assume Android is as direct as iPhone. iPhone goes straight in via TestFlight; on Android your email must be added to the closed testing first.
Sources, estimates and limitations#
NNR 2023 sets the adult daily reference intake at 0.83 g/kg and the recommended range at 10–20% of energy. Leidy et al. 2015 supports cautious claims about satiety and weight management. Reviews by Westerterp-Plantenga et al. 2009 and 2012 discuss protein's role in satiety, energy expenditure and lean mass across different settings.
Recipe estimates use common serving weights from the Swedish Food Composition Database, version 2026-07-01. The Swedish Food Agency says nutrient values can vary and should be treated as assessed averages. That is why “about” appears throughout and costs use ranges.
Important: This article is general information based on research — not medical advice. For caloric deficits below 1200 kcal/day, a history of eating disorders, pregnancy, diabetes, or other medical conditions — always consult a licensed doctor or dietitian before following a diet plan.
When you are ready to turn the dinners into an actual grocery week, start with Smaklig. Plan first, review the list and then let the meal-kit chain move the ingredients into the ICA cart.

Frequently asked questions
How much protein should a weight-loss dinner contain?
There is no official Nordic dinner threshold. NNR 2023 gives adults a daily reference intake of 0.83 g per kilogram of body weight, about 58 g at 70 kg. The dinners here provide roughly 30–40 g as practical recipe examples. Distribute food in a way that suits your body, health, activity and the day's other meals.
Is a high-protein dinner better than skipping dinner?
This article does not recommend skipping meals. A dinner with protein, vegetables and a planned base may be easier to prepare and sustain than a pattern built around banning 1 meal. Weight change depends on the overall pattern over time. Anyone with an eating-disorder history, diabetes or another medical concern should discuss dietary changes with a licensed professional.
Which high-protein dinner has the lowest estimated cost?
The lentil and halloumi stew is the lowest-cost dinner here at about 20–30 SEK per serving and roughly 30 g protein. That is a rounded range for its main ingredients, not a live store-price promise. Cooking 4 servings changes the quantity needed, while pack sizes, unused food and current offers also affect the real serving cost.
Are there vegetarian high-protein dinners for weight loss?
Yes. Two dinners are vegetarian: tofu with edamame at about 36 g protein and lentil stew with halloumi at about 30 g. The frittata also contains eggs and cottage cheese but no meat. NNR 2023 identifies legumes, grains, nuts and seeds as plant protein sources within a varied diet.
Can Smaklig choose the cheapest dinner ingredients?
Smaklig creates 1 weekly menu and shopping list, matches its rows against ICA's range and selects the cheapest suitable products before adding them to the ICA cart. You review and complete the order yourself. “Cheapest” means among the suitable choices compared in the selected store, not every product or every grocery store in Sweden.
How do I join the Smaklig beta on iOS or Android?
On iPhone you can join straight away via TestFlight, with no sign-up — you stay anonymous. On Android you apply through the beta form so your email address is added to the closed testing, then open Google Play's web testing page. The separate Android phone URL returned HTTP 404 on checks dated 2026-08-03, so it is not published here.
